The Azerbaijani diaspora in Ulyanovsk, Russia has delighted local residents by restoring the "Girl with a Flower" monument in the city's Park of Peoples' Friendship, a symbol of the Kazakh girl.

Chairman of the Ulyanovsk Regional Azerbaijan National-Cultural Autonomy (URANCA) Islam Huseynov said that local residents appealed to the diaspora through a social network to restore the monument. In order to restore the former form of the unrecognized monument, our compatriots involved a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, sculptor, associate professor of design at Ulyanovsk State University Oleg Klyuyev. Mehram Mehdiyev, an activist of URANCA, also helped the sculptor during the restoration process. As a result, the torn parts of the monument were restored, the stains on it were cleaned and painted white. At the same time, with the help of our compatriots, the surrounding area where the monument is located has been landscaped.

"This is our gift to our beloved city of Ulyanovsk on City Day. The restoration of the Park of Peoples' Friendship is a topic close to us. We would like it to be completely renewed, to return to this place the former grandeur, beauty and harmony. It is always a pleasure to meet with sensitive city residents who love Ulyanovsk like us”, Islam Huseynov said.

It should be noted that, in 2014, our compatriots restored the part dedicated to Azerbaijan in the park, and last year the dance floor and the bas-relief belonging to Georgia.
